12 schools attended the Year 3/4 Girls Football Borough Championships today at Tooting and Mitcham FC. Some excellent skill was on display across all 4 pitches as the teams battled for the trophy and the chance to represent Merton at the London Youth Games next year.
Group A was closely fought between Poplar A, Wimbledon Park, Wimbledon Chase, Bond, Poplar B, St Thomas and St. Peter & Paul. Wimbledon Park and Wimbledon Chase would progress to the semi finals
Hatfeild topped Group B on goal difference, beating Hollymount into second place. Morden, Aragon, St. Teresa’s and Holy Trinity played some excellent football in another tight group.
Wimbledon Chase and Wimbledon Park won the 2 semi finals leaving Hollymount and Hatfeild to play for the bronze medals. The bronze medal match was a tight affair, with 2 well organised teams playing out a 0-0 draw. Rather than have the nerves of a penalty shoot out, both schools agreed to share the Bronze medals!
Wimbledon Park vs Wimbledon Chase in the final was a great match, with the Wimbledon Park goalkeeper making several saves to keep her side in the match. In the end, the quality of the Wimbledon Chase attack shone through and produced 2 calm finishes to secure the victory.
Congratulations to Hatfeild who were crowned our REFSPECT winners for the day. Thank you to Tooting and Mitcham FC for hosting us and also to Rutlish for providing 12 leaders to referee all the matches.
