Merton District Athletics Team

Merton School Sport Partnership holds the position of Team Manager for the Merton District Athletics team and supports squad selection ahead of the Surrey Schools Athletics events in Cross County and Track & Field.

Qualification for the two district team events is through the Merton Secondary Schools Championships hosted in October (XC) and May (TF). Athletes with the best qualifying times from these events will be selected and offered the opportunity to represent Merton at the Surrey events held in January (XC) and June (TF).

The offers are conditional in line with the minimum entry standards across all Cross County times and Track & Field disciplines. Athletes must meet the District Standards that can be found through the https://www.ssaa.org.uk/ website.

As previously agreed by the Merton Secondary School Sport Association, athletes that cannot attend the qualifier championships for reasons of exceptional circumstances but express an interest to represent the borough and can provide details of official minimum entry standards, will be considered for the team. Places will be offered to those that attend the Merton events and meet the requirements and others placed on the waiting list. Should an athlete be present but not meet the required time or distance, the place will be offered to the athlete on the waiting list with the better record in that academic year. This process, places an emphasis on the importance of the Merton schools event whilst still offering those that cannot attend with a possible route to qualify.
