Year 5/6 Best Team Football Borough Championships

18th October 2024

30 schools, great weather (eventually), and some amazing football! That is a very brief summary of our Year 5/6 Best Team Football Borough Championships.

In the morning the 30 schools were split into 8 groups, all battling to qualify for the 16 places available in the knockout rounds. After some silky skills and tight matches, we were left with 16 schools to compete for the medals and trophy.

The remaining 14 teams showed great resilience to compete again in afternoon fixtures. What a fantastic experience to be able to play on the first team pitch!

Once we had made it through a few penalty shootouts in the knockout tournament, we were left with our final between Dundonald and Liberty. A tense battle dominated by organised defences and great goalkeeping had to be decided by another penalty shootout! Congratulations to Liberty Primary School who managed to win in sudden death.

Well done to Joseph Hood who were voted our REFSPECT winners for the day.

MSSP would like to thank Tooting and Mitcham FC for hosting, as well as Mr Aldridge and the Raynes Park High School leaders. They showed great confidence when refereeing, while also encouraging all players and offering coaching tips along the way.
