On Wednesday 17th May 2023, the West Wimbledon Cluster Yr 5/6 Athletics Mega Fest took place at Raynes Park High School Playing Fields (Westway). With only 4 schools in attendance this allowed plenty of opportunity for each of the 10 squad members to take part in a variety of different athletics themed activity stations that focused on the core skills of running, jumping and throwing. To enable schools to have the opportunity for a little friendly competition against other schools, each school split their squad of 10 into two teams of 5. With one team rotating around the stations clockwise and the other half of the team rotating anti-clockwise. This would ensure each team would meet another school at each of the eight stations.
Station 1. | Speed Bounce |
Station 2. | Sprint—Noughts and Crosses |
Station 3. | Obstacle Relay Race |
Station 4. | Vortex Howler Throw |
Station 5. | Standing Long Jump |
Station 6. | Sprint Retrieval Race |
Station 7. | Chest Push |
Station 8. | Cops and Robbers |
Despite this being designed as a non competitive event, this did not detract the children from trying their very best for their team on each of the activity stations, to try and beat their own and other schools score each round. It was absolutely brilliant to see all the children with huge smiles on their faces all afternoon, as well as displaying exemplary sportsmanship and respect at each of the the different stations.
A huge congratulations to this events Refspect winners, St Matthew’s Primary who were voted worthy winners by the outstanding Year 8 sports leadership team at Raynes Park High School who had been working hard all afternoon to run each of the different stations that each of the schools passed through. Well done guys!
A big thank you again to the PE department at Raynes Park High School for the use of their fabulous facility.
