With the Rugby Football Union (RFU) now delivering London Youth Games Tag Rugby in 2025-2026, MSSP was delighted to welcome RFU Coach Developer Chris Spedding to the AELTC Community Centre on Thursday 27th March 2025, to deliver an afternoon T1 Tag Rugby Workshop for a group of Primary teaching staff.
T1 is the RFU’s new format of non-contact format of rugby that has been designed to be easy to adapt and is suitable for any group of players. Furthermore, it looks and feels more like the game of rugby union, with the same tactical problems and rugby specific skills.
Chris used the afternoon’s practical workshop to introduce the concept of T1 rugby to the staff and demonstrated a number of engaging warm up and skill game activities that teachers could incorporate within their class tag rugby lessons back at school. This will help the children develop key rules of the new format such as the “Tackle Triangle”.
With all MSSP and LYG Tag rugby events using these new rules, attending staff got a great head start in how they can begin preparing their students for next year’s competition.
