Sports leaders Flourish at Scatter-ball Festival

19th April 2023

The West Wimbledon Year 3 and 4 Scatter-ball Festival took place on Wednesday 19th April 2023 at the Westway Sports Facilities of Raynes Park High School.

6 teams from 5 schools attended with 53 pupils in total taking part in 4 fixtures over 3 pitches.

The fixtures were wonderfully officiated by 10 sports leaders from RPHS who were fully engaged throughout in encouraging and coaching the young participants during each moment of the games. The adults in attendance as well as the MSSP team were thoroughly impressed with the confidence and demeanour of the 10 year 8 pupils who went above and beyond to make the young children feel comfortable and encouraged throughout. Well done, you are all a credit to your school.

Hollymount A, Hollymount B, Sacred Heart, Joseph Hood, Pelham and St Matthews all took part in the rounders-based game in which the sending team must distribute 3 objects (a tennis ball with racket, a football and a vortex howler) into the space before running around the 3 bases as fast as possible. The fielding team must collect the objects and return them to the sending hoop before the runner makes it home.

This enjoyable variation of rounders is easy to teach and simple for children of all abilities to pick up whilst still remaining competitive and engaging.

During the festival, the sports leaders kept a close eye on individuals and teams who had been showing outstanding fair play and made a note of these moments with our overall REFSEPCT award in mind. Congratulations to the following pupils for being named REFSPECT individual winners during the sports-leader lead presentation at the end of our event: Alexis from Hollymount, Livia from Sacred Heart, Kalle from Sacred Heart, Sile from Pelham and to Olive from Joseph Hood. Well done to our overall team winners Sacred Heart and Hollymount for picking up the team REFSPECT certificate for the day. Thanks again to the RPHS sports leaders for their engaging and encouraging attitudes throughout the day.
