On Friday 2nd October, over 150 pupils from 13 schools across the borough took part in an exciting Year 5/6 Open Football Development Competition at Tooting & Mitcham FC. The participants enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to develop their football skills, represent their schools, and experience the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.
The competition featured 7-a-side matches, with teams initially competing in round robin groups before progressing into seeded groups where they faced opponents of a similar standard. This format ensured that all teams enjoyed a number of meaningful and competitive matches throughout the event, providing valuable playing opportunities for every participant.
A special thank you goes to all the Active Leaders from Raynes Park High School, who supported the event throughout the day. Their enthusiasm, organisation, and leadership helped create a positive experience for all the young footballers involved and contributed greatly to the smooth running of the competition.
Congratulations to the overall top three schools on the day:
🥇 St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School
🥈 The Sherwood School
🥉 Pelham Primary School
While results were celebrated, the event’s focus remained on learning, development, and enjoyment. Players demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and respect both on and off the pitch, making the competition a great example of positive school sport.
The prestigious REFSPECT Award was presented to Malmesbury Primary School in recognition of their determination, honesty, and fair play throughout the day.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the school staff, volunteers, officials, and Active Leaders who contributed to the success of the event. Their support and dedication ensured a memorable day of football for all participants.
We look forward to welcoming schools to future competitions and continuing to provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the many benefits of school sport.
