Hi 5 Netball Championships Bring Together 16 Schools in Fantastic U11 Tournament

Young netballers from across Merton came together for an exciting day of sport at the annual Hi 5 Netball Borough Championships, where 16 primary schools competed in a lively Under-11 tournament filled with teamwork, determination and great skill.

The competition followed the Hi 5 netball format, designed especially for younger players. With rotating positions and shorter quarters, every child had the opportunity to experience different roles on court while developing their passing, movement and shooting skills.

Schools were split into four groups, with each team playing 3 matches during the morning group stage. From the very first whistle, the courts were full of energy as players showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship.

After a closely contested group stage, the top two teams progressed to the quarter-finals, where the level of play stepped up even further. Fast passing, clever movement and accurate shooting kept the matches thrilling right until the final whistle of the final in which Bishop Gilpin were able to overcome Pelham to win gold. Well done to both teams for reaching the final and to all schools for taking part, including Holy Trinity for winning the bronze medal over Wimbledon Chase in the play-off.

Good luck to Bishop Gilpin who go on to represent Merton at the London Youth Games on Thursday 19th March 2026.

Merton SSP officials praised the players not only for their netball ability but also for their respect, teamwork and positive attitude throughout the day with congratulations going to St Teresa’s Primary for being voted REFSPECT winners overall.

A special thank you to the Sports Leaders from Ricards Lodge and schools staff who helped with hosting leadership training sessions and umpiring at the event. This certainly helped to ensure all 16 schools enjoyed a successful and memorable day of netball.

The Hi 5 Netball Championships once again proved to be a celebration of school sport, leaving players excited to continue improving their skills and looking forward to next year’s competition.
