The Merton District Team provides a fantastic opportunity for talented U11 footballers to represent their school and borough in a high-quality Saturday football programme, competing against district representative teams from across Surrey and beyond.
For the 2026/27 season, the Merton Schools Football Association (MSFA) is delighted to announce a new partnership with the AFC Wimbledon Foundation, which will support the delivery and development of both the U11 Girls’ and Boys’ Representative Teams.
Following nominations from Merton school PE Co-ordinators, Year 5 pupils from across the borough were invited to attend trials during June and July for the opportunity to be selected to represent Merton during the forthcoming season.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Wimbledon College and Liberty Primary School for hosting the trials, as well as all school staff who supported the nomination and invitation process. We are also grateful to the AFC Wimbledon Foundation coaches for delivering the trial sessions and helping to shape the district squads.
As funding for this project cannot be guaranteed annually, the successful delivery of the district teams is made possible through the commitment of volunteer team managers and organisers.
Schools are still encouraged to nominate pupils for the next phase of the selection process. A series of training sessions will be held throughout the summer and into the early stages of the new academic year as preparations begin for the 2026/27 season.
Information has been shared with schools to distribute to parents and carers of nominated pupils, and we will continue to communicate directly with schools and registered families regarding training dates, programme updates, and season plans.
