The 2023 Merton Borough Netball Championships were held at the playing courts of Ricard’s Lodge on Friday 24th February.
It was a great event, attended by a record number of teams this year, with 22 schools taking part in the competition. There was a fantastic quality of play demonstrated throughout the matches so thank you and well done to all the children and staff that showed up today; Bishop Gilpin, St Matthews, St Peter and Paul, Wimbledon Park, Wimbledon Chase, St Mary’s, Hillcross, Hollymount, Merton Park, Joseph Hood, Morden, Liberty, Garfield, Aragon, Pelham, St John Fisher, Haslemere, Abbotsbury, Poplar, West Wimbledon and Holy Trinity. Teams were split across 4 courts and played games in a round Robin format against the other teams in their group. A big thank you and well done is also due to the Ricard’s Sports Leaders, who umpired the matches throughout the event. After dedicating their time over the last couple of weeks, they were able to showcase their refereeing skills today and support the smooth running of the event. Congratulations to Bishop Gilpin A for finishing in 1st place and claiming the title of 2023 Netball Borough Champions! Also to Pelham for winning 2nd place and Hollymount for their 3rd place achievement. Another congratulations to Poplar, who won the REFSPECT award for demonstrating excellent sports values.
