On Wednesday 7th October, 58 pupils from six schools came together at Harris Academy Morden for an exciting Year 5/6 Hockey Development Festival, enjoying a morning of learning, teamwork and friendly competition.
The schools taking part were:
- Bishop Gilpin Primary School
- Holy Trinity CofE Primary School
- Malmesbury Primary School
- Morden Primary School
- Pelham Primary School
- Poplar Primary School
The festival featured a series of 4v4 hockey matches, providing pupils with plenty of opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence and gain valuable match experience. Throughout the morning, pupils demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship as they supported one another and embraced the challenges of the game.
Despite some challenging weather conditions, all participants should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Their positivity, resilience and willingness to get involved ensured that the festival remained a thoroughly enjoyable and successful event for everyone.
A special mention goes to Malmesbury Primary School, who were awarded the REFSPECT Award in recognition of their excellent behaviour, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the festival.
A huge thank you goes to Wimbledon Hockey Club for their coaching expertise and support throughout the day. Their guidance helped pupils develop a greater understanding of the sport and encouraged many to continue their hockey journey beyond the festival.
We would also like to thank all schools, staff, volunteers and 13 Sport Leaders from Harris Academy Morden who contributed to the success of the event. It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying hockey, learning new skills and representing their schools with such enthusiasm.
