On Friday 16th October, the Y5/6 Hockey Borough Championships took place at Raynes Park High School, welcoming over 90 pupils from nine schools for an exciting day of hockey competition and teamwork.
The event featured a fast-paced 6 v 6 format, providing pupils with plenty of opportunities to develop their hockey skills, work collaboratively with teammates, and enjoy competitive matches throughout the day.
The morning session saw schools compete in round robin groups, with every team playing a series of fixtures to determine their standings. Following the group stage, all teams progressed to a second phase of competition in the afternoon. Based on their morning performances, the top 8 teams entered the knockout style phase with the remaining teams entering an alternative round robin group, ensuring every school remained fully involved and had the chance to compete for success within their respective tier.
The standard of play was excellent throughout the day, with pupils demonstrating great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. After a closely contested competition, congratulations go to our top three teams:
🥇 1st Place – Bishop Gilpin Primary School
🥈 2nd Place – Holy Trinity Primary School
🥉 3rd Place – Hollymount Primary School
Alongside the competition results, schools were recognised for their positive attitude and conduct throughout the event. Congratulations to Merton Park Primary School, recipients of the REFSPECT Award for consistently demonstrating outstanding respect, encouragement, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
A huge thank you goes to Merton Hockey Club, Wimbledon Hockey Club, and the 14 Active Leaders from Raynes Park High School, whose support was instrumental in the smooth delivery of the event. Their enthusiasm, organisation, and encouragement helped create a positive and enjoyable experience for all participants.
We would also like to thank all schools, staff, and pupils who took part and contributed to another successful Borough Championships event. It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying hockey and representing their schools with such pride and enthusiasm.
