On Friday 9th October, over 100 girls from nine primary schools across Merton came together at Tooting & Mitcham FC for an exciting Year 5/6 Girls’ Football Development Competition.
The schools taking part were:

- Liberty Primary School
- Lonesome Primary School
- Malmesbury Primary School
- Poplar Primary School
- Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

The event provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to enjoy competitive football in a positive and supportive environment. Throughout the day, teams took part in a packed schedule of matches, with players demonstrating impressive football skills while developing their confidence and understanding of the game. Just as importantly, pupils showcased outstanding teamwork, determination and respect, creating a fantastic atmosphere both on and off the pitch.
Congratulations to Malmesbury Primary School, Singlegate Primary School and St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School for all finishing as group winners following a series of excellent performances.
Alongside the football, schools were recognised for the values they demonstrated throughout the day. Congratulations to Singlegate Primary School, who were awarded the REFSPECT Award for consistently demonstrating respect towards teammates, opponents and leaders.
A huge thank you must also go to the outstanding Active Leaders from Raynes Park High School, who supported the delivery of the event. Their enthusiasm, organisation and encouragement helped ensure the competition ran smoothly and provided a positive experience for all participants.
Well done to every pupil who took part and represented their school so brilliantly. The event was a fantastic celebration of girls’ football and highlighted the growing enthusiasm, talent and sportsmanship being shown across Merton schools.
