Girls Cricket Competitions | Results

11th June 2026

The Merton School Sport Partnership was delighted to host a fantastic Girls’ Cricket Festival this week, bringing together 11 primary schools from across the borough for a day of enjoyable, inclusive and competitive cricket.

The event was structured across two tiers of competition to ensure opportunities for all players to engage at an appropriate level:

  • Champions Cup – for schools with more competitive experience
  • Development Trophy – providing a supportive introduction to competition

Champions Cup

The Champions Cup showcased some excellent performances, with teams from Poplar (x2), Bishop Gilpin, Hatfield, Wimbledon Chase and Holy Trinity demonstrating strong batting, bowling and fielding skills throughout the day. After a series of highly competitive matches, Holy Trinity emerged as deserved winners, with Wimbledon Chase finishing as runners-up following an impressive campaign.

Both teams should be extremely proud of their performances and now have the exciting opportunity to represent Merton at the London County Finals, where they will compete against the best schools from across the capital.

Development Trophy

The Development Trophy provided a fantastic platform for pupils to develop confidence, teamwork and fundamental cricket skills in a supportive environment. It was great to see so many pupils experiencing competitive cricket for the first time.

Malmesbury were crowned Development Trophy winners, showing excellent progress, determination and team spirit throughout the event.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to:

  • All 11 schools for their enthusiasm, commitment and positive participation
  • The outstanding Year 8 sports leaders from Rutlish School, who led activities, officiated games and supported teams with great maturity and professionalism
  • Old Ruts Cricket Club, for generously hosting the event and providing excellent facilities that helped ensure a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone involved

The festival was a brilliant celebration of girls’ cricket in Merton, highlighting the continued growth of the sport and the value of providing inclusive opportunities for all pupils. It was especially encouraging to see high levels of engagement, teamwork and sportsmanship across both tiers.

We look forward to supporting Holy Trinity and Wimbledon Chase at the London County Finals and to continuing the development of girls’ cricket across the borough.
