Schools Run South London activity challenge
Sign up NOW to be part of Schools Run South London – an activity running through the winter to race day – celebrating Merton’s first ever half marathon!
Schools in the borough are being invited to join the celebrations ahead of the Run South London half marathon taking place in Merton in early 2027.
To celebrate the new event in the local sporting calendar, schools are being encouraged to cover 13.1miles in advance of the run day, starting from after October half term 2026 and moving at a pace that suits each school setting.
Split into 12 one-mile segments and a final 1.1 mile section, the activity is designed to fit into the school day and be inclusive to all. Don’t miss the opportunity to complete the final 1.1mile section at the Schools Run South London 1.1mile fun challenge, presented by Merton School Sport Partnership (MSSP), taking place in Mitcham on Wednesday 10th March 2027. Schools can choose how and when to cover the 13.1 miles, with activities suitable to the ages and abilities of pupils taking part, as well as in ways to fit in with school lessons. While running the segments is encouraged to reflect the main run taking place in March, this is a flexible and inclusive activity designed to celebrate the benefits of physical activity and all that is good about our local communities.

Event and activity format
- Freeform – complete the 12 x 1 miles and 1 x 1.1mile sections in school as suits your setting best (option for final 1.1mile section to be completed at the Fun Challenge event on Wed 10th March 2027. LINK HERE.
- Materials for tracking progress and celebrating success will be available for participating schools.

- Incentives will be provided
- A range of supporting activities, promotions and community celebrations taking place across the borough
- Schools completing the challenge will be promoted as part of the activity round-up
