Event Information

Booking

  • This is a Borough Championships level event.
  • On the initial booking date, schools may enter either a Borough Championship or a Development Competition within each sport category.
  • If an event reaches capacity, schools will be placed on a waiting list and advised accordingly. MSSP will contact schools if places become available in the lead up to the event.

Event Eligibility

  • Schools are encouraged to select their strongest squad.
  • School squads should be well prepared and have time to practise with the competition rules before attending this event.

Team Eligibility 

  • Age: Year 5/6  
  • Each school must bring a squad of 12 athletes (6 Boys and 6 Girls) 
  • Each athlete will participate in 1 Track event + 1 Field event + 1 Relay race

Kit & Equipment

  • All schools MUST provide their own First Aid kit and first aid qualified member of staff.
  • Runners of the same school should wear the same colour tops/bibs.  
  • No jewellery permitted.  
  • All children must wear appropriate footwear. 
  • All other sports specific equipment will be provided.

Rules 

  • Team sheets must be completed and handed in at registration.   
  • All events will have separate boys’ and girls’ competitions. 
  • Runners will be advised per race if they need to remain in lanes or if they can merge into nearside lane.
  • Don’t ever cross the track unless advised to do so by MSSP official.

Competition Format

Track Events: 

  • 600m/150m/80m 
  • Separate races for: Boys A; Boys B; Girls A; Girls B
  • Relays: Separate Boys and Girls races (all 6 boys run in their team, all 6 girls run in their team)

Field Events:

(Enter 2 athletes per field event: 1 boy and 1 girl – 4 for Vortex Howler) 

  • Vortex Howler x 2
  • Shot Put
  • Discus
  • Standing Triple Jump
  • Standing Long Jump

Sport Format:

  • Outdoor athletics on grass surface.
  • Track lanes and field events running simultaneously.

Draw Format:

  • The lanes draw will be randomly selected. There is no seeding for this event. 
  • Schools will be provided with an event order and timings before the competition.

Awards and Results 

  • REFSPECT winners – Certificate.
  • GROUPS – Schools will compete in groups of around 6 teams. Within the groups, each team will be awarded points as the athletes compete in the various events. Each group will have teams placed at the end of the event, with certificates awarded for schools placed in Gold, Silver and Bronze positions and participation certificates for the rest of the group. Group winners will NOT receive medals.
  • INDIVIDUALS – The best overall score (across all athletes/groups) for each track and field event, will be recorded and these athletes (boys and girls) will be awarded an individual gold medal (this is NOT one medal for each group, it will be for the best score across all athletes). There will not be individual 2nd and 3rd placing/medals overall.
  • Participation certificates will be presented to all participants. 

Progression Pathway 

  • There is no planned pathway from this event. 

Staffing and Spectators – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Due to a range of safeguarding concerns, spectators will not be permitted entry at any MSSP events as of 8th October 2025.
  • Primary schools must inform parents in advance when inviting students to take part.
  • All staff attending the event must have enhanced DBS clearance and have been fully vetted by their primary school.
  • DBS numbers, full name and school photo ID will be required in advance by the host school for events on school sites.
  • Upon arrival, all staff members must sign a Code of Conduct form to confirm their intent to support the safeguarding of children at MSSP events.
  • Staff must complete a team-sheet ready for registration.
  • Staff may be asked to keep score during the games.
