PE & School Sport Mark
Overview
The Merton PE & School Sport Mark is an annual award designed to celebrate and recognise the exceptional work undertaken by primary and special schools within the London Borough of Merton to deliver high-quality physical education and school sport. This mark provides a framework for schools to assess their current provision, identify areas for development, and ultimately enhance the physical activity and sporting opportunities available to their pupils. It aligns with national guidelines and best practices, ensuring a holistic approach to physical development and wellbeing.
Achieving the Merton PE & School Sport Mark demonstrates a school’s commitment to creating a positive and active environment, fostering a love for sport and physical activity, and promoting healthy lifestyles. The assessment process considers a wide range of criteria, including the breadth and balance of the PE curriculum, the provision of extra-curricular activities, engagement in inter-school competitions, professional development for staff, and the strategic use of the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.
Schools participating in the programme will receive comprehensive support and guidance throughout the year, including access to workshops, resources, and one-to-one consultations with Merton School Sport Partnership specialists. This collaborative approach ensures that schools are well-equipped to meet the rigorous standards of the mark and continuously improve their PE and school sport provision. The aim is to empower schools to build sustainable programmes that have a lasting impact on pupil health, wellbeing, and achievement.
