Merton PE Coach Academy

Introduction

The Borough of Merton aims to become a great ‘Borough of Sport’ and this must begin with the strong foundation of a well-trained workforce to deliver fun and engaging physical activities to our young people; setting them up to develop a lifelong love of being active and healthy. There is a need in Merton for more qualified sports coaches, especially female coaches to deliver physical activity, PE and Sport to children within our schools and community. More activity in these settings will increase opportunities for children (and in turn their families) to improve their health and wellbeing and develop a love of sport and physical activity for life.

PESPA Level 2 and 3 Certificate Courses

As part of the Level 2 and Level 3 programme in 2025-26, delegates will undertake a  series of classroom based theory modules lead by specialist trained MSSP tutors and QTS staff throughout the academic year that are specifically designed to help them develop their confidence and ability as coaches who can support or deliver primary PE and physical activity. This combined with the opportunity to practice delivering practical PE sessions with primary aged children will provide Merton PE Coach Academy delegates vital real world PE teaching experience, and the opportunity to put classroom theory into practice.

Through engaging with the Merton PE Coach Academy, we are confident that our students will receive the support and experience needed to help prepare them for the workplace, and help ensure the next generation of Merton school students will receive good quality coaching which inspires them to enjoy being active for life.
