The Merton School Sport Partnership aims to help all children to be able to reach their full potential in PE.
This year we are working to connect more with schools and teachers to offer support with ideas and resources for adapting PE and delivering PE to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The purpose of the network is to offer the space for Merton school educators to share PE practices and ideas as well as ask questions for the challenges faced when planning and delivering lessons for children with physical and cognitive difficulties and impairments. We intend for this specific approach to build connections between schools and teachers to feel confident when approaching PE, Physical Activity and School Sport.
Do all staff in your school know how to adapt PE for all of their students’ SEND needs?
For the network to have the most impact for 2025, please encourage all staff members, coaches and deliverers of PE who are working with children with SEND to join our sessions as well as get in touch with any questions, queries and best practices that are in place in your school. This will enable us to know your areas of need, to be able to share ideas with those in similar circumstances and connect one another in our Merton Schools for further support.
Join us ONLINE on Thursday 6th February from 4.15pm for our Merton SEND PE Network | Online Support Forum
On this session we will share a number of SEND inclusion resources to support your practices as well as provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The session will also offer a mini case study space to share practices and experiences to encourage all on the call. If you or another at your school would like to share on a particular practice that you have developed to address a need around inclusion and SEND in PE in your lessons, please let us know and we will facilitate this time.
Sessions are available to all staff. Please encourage all teaching staff who are working with SEND individuals and groups in a PE and physical activity setting as well as any SENCOS, 1-1 support staff and any others you may feel this would be beneficial for along to the session. Please also share details for those who cannot attend but would like to be involved and we can be sure to include them in future correspondence.
We are hosting 4 sessions during the year, 2 virtual forums and 2 in-person workshops. Register now for these via the Workshop booking page:
