The Mitcham Cluster Tag Rugby Competition took place at Harris Academy Merton on Tuesday 11th February 2020. Six schools from the cluster attended the event: William Morris, Links, St Thomas, Lonesome, Bond and Stanford. Teams started to get warmed up as soon as they arrived, squeezing in some last minute practice and discussing tactics. Once all schools arrived, they sat down to go through the afternoons schedule and rules of play.
As there were only 6 teams in total, a round robin format was used for the competition, meaning all teams played each other once. This got all teams very excited as they knew they had 5 matches to gain as many points as possible. Teams got 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss.
The games kicked off with St Thomas v William Morris, Bond v Lonesome and Stanford v Links. All teams got stuck in straight from the first whistle and set a great standard to uphold for the rest of the competition. The second round saw Bond take on William Morris, Stanford took on St Thomas and although St Thomas showed great determination, Stanford managed to sneak a 3-2 win thanks to some superb support play. Lonesome played Links and showed how much effort they had put into their training as they were able to clinch the win 3-0 in a well fought match.
Once all teams had played each other the scores were then collated. The final standings proved extremely tight with only goal difference being the decider between the last spot for the borough finals. Congratulations to all competing teams, the final results were as followed:
1st – William Morris
2nd – Bond
3rd – Stanford
4th – St Thomas
5th - Lonesome
6th - Links
The Refspect winners were William Morris they received the most nominations for being respectful, always shaking hands and being positive whilst playing. Congratulations!
St Thomas, Stanford, Bond and William Morris will be representing the Mitcham cluster for the Tag Rugby borough finals on Friday 6th March - Good Luck.
